Database Translation & Dictionary Tools Text to/from Speech & Audio-Visual Support  Reading Level
Career Cruising Bilingual (Spanish-English) version is available. Seamlessly switch between English and Spanish content from anywhere within the program. Simply click on the Español button at the top of the page--click on English to switch back to English from Spanish. Includes graphical display of data on many screens. When viewing career profiles, use the menu on the left to access a Photofile and audio interviews. All content follows a common format and is chunked to facilitate comprehension.
Discovery Education Click on Advanced Search to find content in other Languages (Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Japanese). Click on Advanced Search to find video with Closed Captioned titles. When logged in, search the Help section for topics: "Downloading videos with closed captioning" and "Add closed captioning to any video." n/a
EBSCOhost All database interfaces except for Points of View allow translation of HTML articles by selecting the desired language from a drop-down box when viewing an article. The EBSCOhost Research Databases; Student, Literary, and Biography Reference Centers; and Consumer Health Complete allow translation of the entire search interface by selecting a language in the top-right corner. Translate articles from the Science and History Reference centers via the "EBSCOhost Research Databases" interface.
Built-in read aloud functionality and/or download MP3 readings of HTML articles works with the following interfaces: EBSCOhost Research Databases; History, Science, and English Language Learner Reference Centers; and Points of View. The Student and Literary Reference Centers do NOT offer read aloud--access content of these databases via the "EBSCOhost Research Databases" interface.  Use an Advanced Search with most databases to search by Lexile Reading Level. Some interfaces offer a Visual Search option as a different way to locate search results. Also, the English Language Learner Reference Center offers articles written and formatted specifically to support different reading levels. Click here to read more about the ELL Reference Center.

FollettShelf eBooks         Translation is not available. A built-in dictionary tool is available. When reading an eBook online, highlight and right-click to look up words in linked dictionary. For books with publisher-granted rights, use the "Read Aloud" function. When using the online reader, click on the i (in a circle) icon to view Read Aloud permissions. For books with the permission, click on the READ > (in a speech bubble) icon. Use an Advanced Search or use Narrow Your Search in the left column to locate books by Lexile, Accelerated Reading, and Reading Counts levels. Reading Program Info is also available when viewing any title record.

netTrekker Use an Advanced Search or Refine Search in the right column to locate web resources by Language. When accessing a website via netTrekker, click on Dictionary in the toolbar along the top in order to turn on an embedded tool for one-click dictionary look-up and translation for French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Portuguese.  When accessing a website via netTrekker, click on Read Aloud in the toolbar along the top in order to turn on an embedded tool for read aloud. Once read aloud functionality is turned on, highlight text to be read aloud, adjusting reading speed and voice as desired. Use an Advanced Search or Refine Search in the right column to locate web resources with Multimedia and/or Learning Aids. Use an Advanced Search to search by Readability level--numerous measures are available including Lexile. Use Refine Search in the right column to narrow search results by netTrekker's Readability Levels 1-5. Sort search results by readability and click on More under the website description of search results for readability levels in other systems. 
World Book Online When viewing an article, click on Translate this text in the Tools box above the article. Access the Spanish Language Encyclopedia, Enciclopedia Estudiantil Hallazgos, for content originally written in Spanish. World Book Discover also offers a Visual Dictionary that may be useful for vocabulary instruction. When viewing an article, click on Hear text read aloud in the Tools box above the article. Use an Advanced Search to search for Sound and Pictures. World Book provides four leveled interfaces : Kids, StudentAdvanced, and Discover. In the Student, Advanced, and Discover versions, view Lexile information in the top left column when viewing an article. Student and Advanced encyclopedia articles have identical content (Lexile = ~1000+). For content written at a more basic reading level, use either the Kids or Discover versions, which share encyclopedia article content (Lexile < ~1000). When using World Book with students of varying reading levels, try using the Student search interface and select the option to search both World Book Student + Kids at once.
